Miller Syncrowave 212 TIG/Stick Welder: Full Specs, Review & Buying Guide

Miller Electric just released the Syncrowave® 212, a new AC/DC TIG and stick welder! This compact welder delivers professional performance in a user friendly format. We are going to give you an overview on what is new on this machine, overall review and what we think after welding with the Syncrowave® 212 Air Cooled package. (Video below full review and demo) Also can we call out this machine is engineered and assembled in Appleton, WI!

What's New on the Syncrowave® 212

The Miller Syncrowave® series has been solid for many years and known for being reliable and having smooth arc performance. The 212 takes this a step further:

Inverter Design:  Dramatically lighter and smaller

212 Amp Output: Perfect for welding 1/4" aluminum and 3/8" steel in a single pass

Auto-Set: This feature automatically sets weld parameters based on material thickness, metal, and type of weld

AC/DC Capability: Seamless switch between TIG aluminum (AC) and TIG steel or stick welding (DC)

Fan-On-Demand: Helps reduce noise, energy use and dust intake

Upgrades from previous version:

  • 130 A @ 60%
  • 54 lbs (60% lighter than previous version)
  • Color LCD Display
  • 6010 capable
  • Water Cooler compatible (Package with or you can add later)

Why We Like the Syncrowave® 212

We have quite a few TIG welders in our demo room and what makes this one stand out? The biggest thing for us is how intuitive the set up is. The screen is super clear and new o the latest launched Miller TIG welders the dynamic images and easy to understand descriptions. For example when you set up the type of weld it shows you a photo of each type. Another example is when adjusting balance it shows and describes (and shows a photo) of the change to the weld if you increase or decrease your settings.

The thing we like is how portable this machine is and the ability to add a water cooler later. If you have ever tried to take the previous version Syncrowave® 210 with you for a job you will appreciate the size of the Syncrowave® 212. (This also replaces the Diversion 180)

Another bonus for this machine is how easy it is to add the Spoolmate 150 and MIG aluminum. There is not another machine in this category that you can plug in a spoolgun and tackle a MIG aluminum job. We did make a video showing how this works and weld with the spoolgun in auto-set mode.

When it comes to the actual weld we were not disappointed this feels like what you would expect from a Miller Electric TIG welder. We would compare it to the TIG weld on the Multimatic 220 or the previous model the 210.

Should you buy the Syncrowave 212?

If you are looking for a AC TIG welder and portability and technology are important to you look no further. We do want to call out that the next step up from this machine would be a Miller Dynasty. We have another entire blog on this series and review videos but in summary the Dynasty is more advanced and should be considered if your professionally TIG welding or doing super thin material.

The 212 is available in three convenient packages. The first option is the Air Cooled package this includes everything you need to TIG and Stick weld. The second package includes the Spoolmate 150. The third package includes the water cooler set up.

**Note you can add the Spoolgun and water cooler later.
