Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has announced the launch of the 6th annual Welding Projects Challenge: "What Drives You?" This competition is hosted by Miller and is held between June 15 and August 10, 2011. It is a competition that is designed for anyone in the industry to show off their talent and welding skills. There are three categories that contestants can submit projects in – easy, moderate, and difficult. Easy projects are those that can be done in a day or less, moderate needs about a week, and difficult projects may take weeks or months. The more difficult the category the more skills and equipment needed.
There will be five finalists in each category. Judges will select the finalists based on the creativity of their project, the quality of their presentation, and the craftsmanship of the project. Every finalist will win a pair of MIG welding gloves worth $19.50 and a '64 Custom™ auto darkening helmet from the Performance Series worth $240.
When the finalists have been selected, the public will get to vote for the winners. Voters will go online to choose a winner from every category. The grand prize winners are to be announced on September 23, 2011.
Each category will have a grand prize winner. The grand prize winners will get to choose their prize. The winners will choose from a Spectrum 375 X-TREME plasma cutter worth $1,590, a Diversion 180 TIG welder worth $2,225, or a Millermatic 211 Auto-Set with MVP MIG welder worth $1,279.
The project you select to enter can be for work, home, or just something that you want to make for fun. To enter the contest you have to be a legal resident of the US or Canada (except Quebec), be 18 or over and the age of majority, have Internet access so that you can upload a digital image and access to the welding equipment that you will need. You have to enter a new project that requires welding, not something that you made previously. Submit an online entry with a brief written description of the project and what category you are choosing to enter.
Winners will hear by telephone and/or email around September 2. Make sure to answer because if you cannot be contacted in 7 days a new winner will be selected. Any prizes that are won will be mailed within 30 days to the winner, after the challenge is over.
