Welding students at Apollo High School in Bluffton, OH were given a tour of the highly advanced facilities at Diamond Manufacturing. The Allen County business provides sturdy racks for a number of leading companies, including Ford, Honda, General Motors, Braun Industries, and Subaru.
The 13 students, accompanied by an instructor, learned about all facets of the company’s business, including fabrication, welding, laser cutting, stamping, and warehousing. The company’s manager was happy to host the students for the day in the hope that they’ll consider applying locally for a welding job when they’re done training.

Review of ESAB Welding Helmet: ESAB released the new Aristo Tech HD welding helmet. The company claims that it is the first auto-darkening helmet with an optical class of 1/1/1/1 the highest optical performance possible according to the EN 379 standard. Team FIN tested the helmet and rated it on a scale of 1 to 5.
NASA Completes Welding Project: In a major step towards flight, engineers at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans have finished welding together the pressure vessel for the first Lunar Orion crew module that will blastoff in 2018 atop the agency’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. This Orion is going to the Moon and back.
The 2018 launch of NASA’s Orion on an unpiloted flight dubbed Exploration Mission, or EM-1, counts as the first joint flight of SLS and Orion, and the first flight of a human rated spacecraft to deep space since the Apollo Moon landing era ended more than 4 decades ago.

College Expands to Meet Job Demand: The Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology knows companies will be lining up to hire the additional graduates it will be able to train when it completes its Greiner branch campus at the former National Guard Armory on Chesapeake Street
Many companies are struggling to fill job openings and can’t wait: They need skilled workers now. So this month, Stevens expanded its metals fabrication and welding technology program and moved it to an interim site at 1812 Colonial Village Lane in the Greenfield Corporate Center.
Ohio Welding Company Adds Jobs: Salem Welding and Supply, plans to add 8,000 square capacity and five jobs to Plant No. 2, across the street from its Prospect Street business.
Salem Welding and Supply Co. Vice President Tom Baker cut the ribbon on Thursday. Baker said he started working at the business as a kid, sweeping the floors alongside his father and grandfather, who also worked there. Back in 1975, the company was just a four-man shop, and Baker is thrilled about the recent growth.â€

10 Week Welding Classes Offered at Louisiana College: Learn to weld at South Louisiana Community College in February. Courses are starting throughout the month on SLCC’s campuses in Abbeville, Lafayette, New Iberia, Opelousas, and St. Martinville. This 10-week, non-credit course is for anyone interested in learning to weld or anyone looking for a refresher course. The appropriate level of welding will be offered according to the student’s skill level.
Welding Class Offered for Farmers: Do you ever need something welded around your house or farm? Surry Community College will be offering an Agricultural GMAW (MIG) Welding class starting Jan. 23, geared towards farmers and homeowners. The class will be held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through March 19 in the S Building on the Dobson campus. No class will be held on March 12. This class will focus on welding safety, electric and gas drive power sources.â€
Structural Welding Student Recognized: Muskogee’s January Student of the Month in the Structural Welding program is Joshua Sparks, who is a senior at Fort Gibson High School and is enrolled at Indian Capital Technology Center.Joshua is a hard worker with very good attendance, and he always tries his best at everything he does, said Bruce Jacobs, ICTC Structural Welding instructor.

Black River Falls Welding Fire Impacts Company: Welding sparks caused a fire Monday afternoon at Meisters Forest Products in Black River Falls. Firefighters responded to the business at 700 Timber Road in the city’s Industrial Park about 12:30 p.m. and found no active flames but discovered the fire extended into a wall and attic, according to the Black River Falls Fire Department.
