Weld My World - Welding News

Welding Is Essential for Electric Vehicles

While Ron Standley, a construction manager, had long wanted to try out welding, his first time striking an arc happened because of a Father’s Day gift from his son Reed. Reed know that he and his father have a lot of fun working on cars together, so it wasn’t too far of a leap to try out a two-day welding class together.

The father and son team learned about using plasma cutters and welders over the course of the Saturday and Sunday event that was geared toward dads and their children. The Standley’s have plans to put their welding to good use in their future projects together.

Welding Industry

Miller Modifies the Welding Mask for Industries
“Miller Electric Manufacturing recently introduced the Weld-Mask 2 – a first-of-its-kind alternative to traditional welding helmets for the industrial welding market. The mask is engineered specifically for the unique hazards prevalent for construction and ship welders, and other operators who weld in tight, non-traditional spaces. ”

Welding Is Essential for Electric Vehicles
“Fiber laser welding technology is contributing to lower cost and higher reliability batteries for the latest generation of electric vehicles. Fiber laser welding reliably produces consistently high-quality welds for electric vehicle batteries where aluminum, copper, nickel-coated steel and combinations of these materials are welded together.”

Welding Education

Women Continue to Take Welding Classes
“Bill Presby’s welding class is full of students who hope to one day become certified welders. Over the years, though, Presby has noticed one big difference: There are more women going into the field than ever before.”

Sampson Community College Ads Experienced Welder to Faculty
“It is not every day that you can say the leader of a group has almost half a century in his field with no signs of stopping. For Sampson Community College, that is exactly what Dale Godbold brings to the table. Godbold is the new lead welding instructor at the college.

“He brings more than forty years to of experience to this program,” says Barney Grady, Coordinator of Building Industrial programs at SCC. “He’s going to be very valuable to us. We have so many trades here that require welding, it’s good for the students to have someone they can lean on, learn from and ask about mistakes maybe he made in the past and it will help them avoid them.”

Welding Jobs

Women Who Weld Program Connects Women with Welding Jobs
“An introduction to MIG welding workshop for women is back in Traverse City for the second straight summer. The class runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 29 at Northwestern Michigan College’s Aero Park Laboratories at 2525 Aero Park Drive, according to a press release. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit Women Who Weld made its first venture outside of the Detroit area last year.

Women Who Weld founder and instructor Samantha Farr will again lead the workshop, which has a maximum of 16 female participants. There will be a waitlist if needed and those on the list will be notified when an opening becomes available.”

Welding Merit Badge Changed Scout’s Career Plans
“Addison Foli thought he should head for a career in marine biology, but after one semester, he realized college wasn’t for him. Back to the drawing board. What job should the Gainesville, Fla., Eagle Scout pursue?

His godfather — an electrician — suggested he look into a trade field. That’s when his family reminded him how much he enjoyed earning the Welding merit badge at summer camp in 2014. Bingo! ‘It’s science mixed with art mixed with hard work,’ Foli says. ‘You can make a career out of it.’”
