ESAB Introduces New TIG Welding Torches: “ESAB Welding & Cutting Products introduces a new range of TXH™ GTAW (TIG) welding torches. This versatile family of torches has been developed with the needs of the welder in mind. ESAB’s new TXH torches have a highly ergonomic design, are convenient to operate, and produce high quality results in all common GTAW applications.”
Urethane Supply Company Releases New Welding System: “The Urethane Supply Company recently released the 6057-C Nitro Fuzer Welding System, a new nitrogen welding technology that combines hot air and nitrogen welding. The Nitro Fuzer includes fine-flow control regulators on both the air and nitrogen sides. Those are combined with output pressure gauges and a flow gauge to give users control over the amount of gas that is used during the welding process.”
Welding Jobs
Houston We Have a Welder Shortage: “The Houston area needs welders. Demand far outstrips supply, thanks to the continuing strength of the oil and gas industry here as well as the large number of these skilled workers reaching retirement age. Houstonians looking to enter the field have multiple opportunities for employment and for the education needed to obtain it.”
Canadian Government Awards Contract to Vancouver Ship Yard: “A $3.3-billion federal contract awarded to Vancouver Shipyards Monday will have as many as 1,000 skilled workers rushing to fill an order for ten new non-combat ships for the Canadian Coast Guard. The project is in addition to seven non-combat vessels that the company is already slated to build after it was awarded an $8-billion deal by the federal shipbuilding procurement project in 2011.”
Welding Education
Leed University and the Plight of the Welding Trade in Colorado: “Leed Fabrication Services has created its own ‘university’ to bring potential employees up to speed in their growing manufacturing business. Headquartered in Brighton, a Greeley plant on the side, Leed, which builds oil and gas separators and emissions control systems for oil and gas producers, last year opened a 22,000-square-foot Loveland manufacturing plant, and is already working on expanding it another 69,000 square feet, as they work to service an industry experiencing one of its biggest booms in years.”
Welding Events
This conference is aimed at exploring the many facets of thermal spray including advanced uses of robotics in thermal spray, improving coating yield through powder feed optimization, recycling thermal spray overspray dust, and applying thermal spray anodic coatings to less than ideally prepared surfaces.
Welding Gone Wrong
1 Dead, 2 Injured in Washington D.C. Metro Line Welding Accident: “One contractor died and two Metro employees were injured in a welding accident in a Red Line subway tunnel between Union Station and the Judiciary Square stop early Sunday, Metro said.”
Welding Spark Ignites Recycling Plant Fire: “Workers who were welding at Greenstar Recycling in Northampton ignited a trash fire Sunday afternoon that took area firefighters more than two hours to extinguish. The workers took required safety precautions, but a stray spark apparently ignited recycled material at the processing plant, said Chief Francis Hadik of North Catasauqua Volunteer Fire Co.”
