With the seasons changing and the holidays fast approaching, now may be the perfect time to work on some welding projects that can be used as gifts. How many times has your Aunt Edna mentioned how much she would enjoy a piece of artwork for her garden.  Use some of the downtime that all welders experience during cooler months to work on some of these projects, if anything you will be practicing and perfecting your welding skills.

Clean Air America Inc., Atlanta, has provided seven Leaf Weldstations to Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC), Springfield, Ill., which offers welding operator and welding specialist certifications. The units are used to eliminate weld smoke
and grinding dust from the welding training lab.

The Harris Products Group facility in Mason, Ohio, has been named a 2012 finalist
for IndustryWeek’s Best Plants competition. The distinction is based on strong
manufacturing performance and a comprehensive focus on continuous improvement.

Welding Industry

The Lincoln Electric Co., Cleveland, has appointed Frank Armao as director of
aluminum welding technology. In this position, he provides leadership in
aluminum welding customer support and applications engineering insight. He collaborates with the aluminum welding technology teams at the company’s headquarters and at company subsidiary Indalco Alloys, a producer of aluminum wire products in Ontario.

Fronius USA LLC, Brighton, Mich., a manufacturer of welding equipment, has hired Brent Prigge to support customers in the Houston area.

Welding Education

Infrastructure contractors Strukton Rail and VolkerRail have jointly established a rail welding school to train and recertify welders to work on the ProRail network.

Welding Events

North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event heads to the Las Vegas Convention Center November 12-14, 2012.

EWI and the Center for Precision Forming at Ohio State University are pleased to be establishing a new forming center at EWI. The inaugural event will be a jointly
sponsored workshop on Advance Sheet Metal Forming Technology on November 14, 2012, with a cocktail reception the evening of November 13.
