VIDEO : Welding Nickel Alloys

Nickel Alloy

Keeping the following questions in mind, what do you know about welding nickel alloys? How, if it is at all possible, do you weld nickel alloys? What makes them different from other metals?

Nickel alloys are metals that contain more nickel than anything else. Usually, the percentage is at least 50% nickel and the other 50% a mixture of other metals.

Aside from the obvious, the properties of nickel alloys are very different from other weld-able metals:

  • They are corrosion resistant
  • Even when heated to red hot temperatures repeatedly, they don’t scale
  • Nickel alloys have low conductivity
  • Some nickel alloys become stronger through heat treatment

WeldingTipsandTricks.com created a video last week on how to weld nickel alloys. Working with two types of nickel alloy, they break down the properties of these metals and why they react to heat in different ways. Enjoy!
