Earlier this month The Post and Courier, a Charleston, SC newspaper, published an article about the increasing amount of Americans looking for better job opportunities in dangerous fields – namely underwater welding. The article focused on a new diver welder, Quinton Ford, and his journey through the International Diving Institute.
The International Diving Institute offers a full-time, 4 month program that transform students into professional underwater welders. What are the requirements for enrolling?
Application Requirements
- You must be 18 or over
- Know how to swim (you don’t need to know how to dive or weld)
- Complete and send the application/enrollment agreement along with an application fee of $100 (the fee in non-refundable)
- Present your official high school transcript or GED, driver’s license, original birth certificate, and social security card
- Pass a physical exam
Some conditions that will disqualify you from consideration for the program include:
- History of seizure disorder other than early childhood febrile (high fever) conditions.
- Chronic alcoholism drug abuse, or history of psychosis
- Grossly impaired hearing
- Chronic conditions requiring continuous control by medication
- Pregnancy
