The Lean & Mean Cutmaster 40. New from Thermal Dynamics!

The Cutmaster 40 from Thermal Dynamics is not a machine to overlook. Check out some of the features of the new plasma cutter from Thermal Dynamics and let us know what you think!

Overview of the Cutmaster 40 from Thermal Dynamics

First things first, there is a 4 Year Warranty on the Cutmaster 40. That is a year longer than most plasma / welding units. That speaks to their faith that this is a solid unit that won't fail on you. Thermal Dynamics has been making top-notch plasma cutters since the 1950's, so you can be sure that they know what they're doing.

If you really decide that you don't like the unit, you can take advantage of ESAB's Iron Clad Pledge. This means you can return the unit for a full refund within 100 days of the purchase! We don't think that this will be something you need to take advantage of, but it's always nice to have that insurance.

The weight of the machine is pretty incredible. It comes in at just 22 pounds. I personally picked it up and was pretty surprised how lightweight it is. The unit also feels very good in your hands. It has 3 heavy-duty handles; one on the front, one in the middle, and another on the back. This feature comes in handy when you are tossing the unit into your trunk, truck bed, or onto your work bench. No matter the orientation of the machine, you are able to grab the unit easily.

The front and rear handles are also dual purpose and serve as protection for the face of the unit and the rear solenoid / power. That means if something falls towards the unit and hits it, all of the important parts are safe and covered.

The Cutmaster 40 also has an IP23 rating. That is very high, especially for a unit at this price-point. The IP23 rating lends the machine's cab to be much more durable and resistant against the elements (rain and debris).

Cutting Capacity

We haven't even talked about cut capacity yet, thats how you know that there are so many awesome features with this unit. The cut capacity is the most impressive feature here, so read closely.

The Cutmaster 40 will cut up to 1/2" (12 mm), and it will sever a whole inch! That is huge for a machine of this size and portability. It also runs 10 amps hotter than the competition, at a max of 40. The unit has a 40% duty cycle at 40 amps.

On top of that, you will get Thermal Dynamics Black Series Electrodes. These are proven to last 60% longer than standard consumables. The core is made of hafnium which in short is much more resistant to Plasma Arc.

The Cutmaster 40 also has automatic amperage adjustment which allows more flexibility and less messing around with settings.

Demo of the Cutmaster 40

Here's our demo of the unit. Andrew cut through a range of metal gauges, and it held up really well. In the video he goes over the interface on the unit, and also the setup of the machine. Check it out and let us know what you think in the blog post comments below!

Price Point

Though Thermal Dynamics has yet to officially release a price on this unit, we are pretty confident that it will be around $1,400. That price point will make it very competitive compared to other units that are in the same weight class. Stay tuned for the official price release soon!
