Miller Electric has four main models of their small frame units. There are quite a few differences between the models so keep reading to see which one is right for you.
Millermatic 142 VS Millermatic 141
The Millermatic 142 and Millermatic 141 are perfect for anyone that just needs a small and reliable MIG welder. If you are a hobbyist, farmer, or someone doing light fabrication work that is under 3/16in, then the Millermatic 142 or 141 are the perfect machines for you. With Autoset and Smooth Start you don't need a lot of experience to get the results you are after.
A noteworthy improvement on the 142 over the 141 is the duty cycle. The Millermatic 141 has a duty cycle of 100% at 40 amps while the Millermatic 142 has a duty cycle of 100% at 60 amps. The Millermatic 142 can also run at full power off of just 5000 watts of generator power. The Millermatic 141 is also heavier coming in at 51 pounds while the Millermatic 142 is only 33 pounds.
Millermatic 211
The Millermatic 211 is the next step up in the MIG-only machines. This machine is dual voltage meaning you can run 120v or 240v input power. This allows you to get up to 3/8in on mild steel. When running the 211 on 120v you will get a duty cycle of 20% at 115 amps and if you run 240v you will get a 40% duty cycle at 150 amps. This machine comes in at 38 pounds with a compact form factor, so it is still easy to move around a job site or garage. There is also a cart package option that can hold a bottle of gas.
Multimatic 215
The Multimatic 215 is the first multi-process unit of the small form factor machines. If you think you will even run into anything that needs a stick weld or DC (non-aluminum) TIG weld, then this is the machine for you. If you are welding steel this machine can do 3/8in thick for MIG and Stick, and 1/4in with TIG if you purchase the TIG package. The Multimatic 215 comes in at 38 pounds so it is still very easy to move around and there is also a cart package offered for this machine.
Multimatic 220
The Multimatic 220 is our best selling Miller welder, and for good reason. The Multimatic 220 is dual voltage, and can do MIG, Stick, and AC/DC TIG. The big feature being AC TIG, meaning you can tackle aluminum TIG jobs. The 220 can MIG and Stick weld 3/8in steel, and TIG weld 1/4in steel and aluminum. The 220 comes in at 56 pounds so not quite as mobile at the other machines, but there is a cart package offered. If you plan to do any aluminum TIG jobs this is going to be one of the best machines to do the job. The next step up in Miller's AC/DC TIG welders would be the Dynasty series, which are TIG and Stick only.
