Want to win some cool prizes for your welding side projects this summer? If you’re a talented metalworker and you can stand up to competition, then consider entering Miller’s Welding Showdown.
Miller has launched their 5th annual welding project challenge where they award 6 semi-finalists and 3 finalists for completed welding projects.
There are 3 categories you can enter: easy, moderate or difficult. Easy projects require beginning metalworking skills, can be done in less than a day and can be made with common metalworking tools. Moderate projects take about a week to complete, use more advanced metalworking tools and require more than basic skills. Difficult projects take several weeks or months to complete, require advanced tools and advanced skills.
Out of all of the entries, Miller will choose 2 finalists in each category. Each finalist will win a ArcStation 30SX welding workbench and an Elite Series welding helmet. They will also win an all-expense-paid trip to the Miller Headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin where they will compete in a head-to-head showdown with the other finalist in their category. The total value of the finalist prize is approximately $1800.
Each finalist will then enter a showdown match with the other finalist in his or her category. In this round they will complete a project (chosen by Miller) in a set period of time with designated supplies and tools.
The projects will be judged based on creativity, skill and craftsmanship. Four independent judges will determine how unique and clever the design was, how innovative was the use of materials and how well the craftsman presented his or her design.
The grand prizewinner in each category will receive one of three welding packages of their choice at up to a $2,000 value.
To participate, complete your project, take up to three digital pictures of it and submit them to the Miller Showdown website. You must submit entries by 5pm (central) on August 10, 2010.
You must be older than 18 and be a legal resident of the US be eligible for competition. View the Miller Showdown website for a full list of the rules.
