According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women comprised 5.8% of welding, soldering, and brazing workers in 2023. This growing representation is reshaping the industry and inspiring future generations. 

Inspiring Stories of Women in Welding

Barbara Parsons (Barbie the Welder): Barbara Parsons, known professionally as Barbie the Welder, is a self-taught metal sculptor from Elmira, New York. After learning welding at a local BOCES program, she worked as a sheet metal fabricator before becoming an independent artist in 2014. Her unique sculptures have garnered international attention, and she has authored books to inspire others in metalworking.

Ruth Medufia: Hailing from Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana, Ruth Medufia broke gender norms by pursuing a career in welding. After completing high school, she enrolled in the Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment, aiming to become a qualified tradesperson in construction. In 2018, Ruth was recognized among the BBC's 100 most influential and inspiring women worldwide.

Stephanie Hoffman: A graduate of the Universal Technical Institute's Welding program, Stephanie credits her mother for inspiring her vocational call to welding. She aims to inspire her twin children by demonstrating that women can achieve anything they set their minds to. Stephanie's journey underscores the importance of family support and determination in pursuing a welding career.

Lauren Wilson and Daniela Rubino: After training at prestigious art schools in the UK, Lauren and Daniela co-founded RubinoWilson, a welding business.
